About 8 years ago, a group of former treasurers of relevant banks in Brazil decided to create an economic team to share information and analysis among themselves to support their investment decisions. Ibirapuera was born as an economic and market discussion group previously formed by other relevant Brazilian economists until the arrival of Andréa Bastos Damico and her economic consultancy company in 2020 (Buysidebrazil).

The group grew and included new participants (family offices, funds, and individual managers), but the essence of a deep, open, and honest discussion on economic issues that can influence market prices was always maintained. One of Buysidebrazil’s main pillars is the close interaction with customers, which gives great dynamics to discussions and new insights for the design of the base scenario and the associated risks.

Andréa Bastos Damico

Founder and CEO

Andréa holds 25 years of expertise in the financial market, 21 of them covering domestic and international macroeconomic scenarios, always focused on buy-side analysis. She has an academic master’s degree in Economics from the Getulio Vargas Foundation (EESP-FGV) and a degree in Economics from the State University of Campinas. She developed her career in Banco Itaú, HSBC, and mainly in Banco Bradesco, one of the largest banks in Latin America, where worked from 2003 to 2020. In 2020, she founded Buysidebrazil.

Alfredo Menezes

Senior advisor

Alfredo holds 43 years of expertise in the financial market. He worked at Banco BCN from 1985 to 2001, where assumed as the Treasury Director. In 2001, he became responsible for Banco Bradesco’s Treasury, being executive managing director from 2012 to 2015, Alfredo was also a B3 board member and director at ANBIMA. He dedicated himself to his Family Office, Jceta, from 2016 to 2019. He founded Armor Capital in 2019 and joined Buysidebrazil as an advisor in 2022.

Thais Ortega

Advisor

Thais is a portfolio manager at Citrino Gestão de Recursos. She holds a Master’s in Economics and has worked in the financial market for 25 years. She started her career as an economist at BBA and Bradesco, then became an EM strategist at M.Safra, and finally a portfolio manager at family offices such as BWGI and Citrino. Thais joined Buysidebrazil as an advisor in 2022.

Mirella Hirakawa

Mirella holds 14 years of expertise in the financial market. Graduated in Economics from the University of São Paulo (FEA-USP), with a Master’s in Economics from the Barcelona School of Economics, she began her professional career in 2010 in Macroeconomic Research at Banco Bradesco, joined M Safra & Co Money Managers in 2013, and then Banco Santander from 2017 to 2019. In 2020 she became a Senior Economist at Itaú Asset Management, and  joined AZ Quest as a Partner and Senior Economist in 2021, where she worked until 2023. Mirella joined Buysidebrazil as Partner and Research Coordinator in 2024.

Gustavo Rostelato

Gathering 6-years of experience in macroeconomic research, he is responsible for US and European economy analysis. Gustavo has been working at Buysidebrazil since 2021, after joining the economic department of Banco Bradesco for one and a half year.

Thaís Rodrigues

She has been working with macroeconomic analysis since 2017, and currently covers Brazilian inflation at Buysidebrazil. Thaís previously worked at Banco Bradesco for 2 years, joining Ibirapuera Capital in 2019, where she developed experience in other economic areas. She has been working at Buysidebrazil since 2022.

Marcelo Alonso

He started his career in economic research at Banco Bradesco six years ago and has been working at Buysidebrazil since 2020. He developed academic research on econometrics, using programming to handle the high complexity of data to predict Brazilian economic activity. Marcelo is currently developing his academic master’s degree in Economics at the Getulio Vargas Foundation (EESP-FGV).

Rita Milani

Currently responsible for Chinese economic analysis, Rita holds a master’s degree in Agricultural Economics at Universität Hohenheim (Germany) and a degree in Economics from USP. She previously held a position at Banco Bradesco from 2007 to 2013, covering Brazilian fiscal policy and sectoral analysis.

Ítalo Faviano

With four years of experience in the financial market, he is responsible for political and fiscal analysis. Italo joined Buysidebrazil in 2024, following his tenure as an analyst at funds such as Gauss Capital, Opportunity Total and Jive Investments.

Rafaela de Souza

Rafaela holds a degree in Economics from UNIFESP and started her career in macroeconomic research in 2021 as an intern at Banco Bradesco, working in different economic areas for almost 2 years. She has been part of the Buysidebrazil team since 2023, currently covering Brazilian external accounts and inflation.
