Brazil economy registers its third consecutive deflation, after a 0.29% drop in September
Fuel prices decline continues to drive CPI downwards. Food prices fell in that month, but accumulates a 9.54% increase this year
Brazil registered a new deflation in September, according to the Consumer Price Index (IPCA) figures released Tuesday by the IBGE. Driven by the gasoline and food prices contraction, the index retreated 0.29% in that month. Considering this result, the indicator rose 7.17% in the last twelve months.
This was the third consecutive drop on the consumer price index, even though it was less intense than the declines registered in July (-0.68%) and August (-0.36%). Still, the prices fall is considered an atypical movement in Brazilian economy.
